Two countries — Israel and Jordan — are located on opposite banks of the Jordan River. Within a single journey, travelers can discover the history, culture, and landmarks of both countries.
Israel is a unique land steeped in ancient history and legend. The Promised Land, entrusted by God, preserves the heritage of countless civilizations, religions, and empires — from the Book of Genesis and the biblical patriarchs to Ancient Egypt and the Kingdom of Judea, from Ancient Rome and Byzantium to the Crusaders and the Ottoman Empire. Within Israel’s relatively small territory are concentrated some of the world’s greatest religious shrines, extraordinary historical monuments, and remarkable natural wonders.
Jordan is likewise a unique and blessed land mentioned throughout both the Old and New Testaments. It is a land where entire civilizations arose and declined, and the homeland or refuge of many great prophets. The ancient history of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is intertwined with biblical traditions connected to Abraham, Job, Moses, Ruth, Elijah, John the Baptist, Jesus Christ, the Apostle Paul, and many other important biblical figures whose teachings influenced millions around the world.
