Wine Tourism (Enotourism)

The Land of Israel is considered one of the birthplaces of winemaking. According to tradition, after the Great Flood, Noah planted the first vineyard here, meaning wine production in this region began nearly two thousand years before wine first reached Europe.

In biblical times, wine — alongside water — was one of the principal beverages of the inhabitants of the Land of Israel. During archaeological excavations near the Old City of Jerusalem, dried grape seeds nearly 3,000 years old were discovered beneath layers of earth from different historical periods.

Wine enthusiast and researcher Elyashiv Drori succeeded in reviving ancient grape varieties that once grew in the Land of Israel during the eras traditionally associated with Kings David and Solomon.

Israel offers ideal conditions for viticulture, and the country’s wine regions differ greatly in microclimate, creating a remarkable diversity of wine styles and flavors.

Israel has five main wine-producing regions: Galilee, Golan Heights, Samaria, Judean Hills, Negev Desert.

Israeli wines can be purchased directly from wineries as well as in specialty wine shops throughout the country.

The total area of Israeli vineyards is relatively small — approximately 5,500 hectares. The climate is predominantly Mediterranean, characterized by long, hot, dry summers and short winters.

Among the most widely cultivated grape varieties are: Cabernet Sauvignon — 25%; Merlot — 20%; Carignan — 16%; Sauvignon Blanc — 5%; Muscat of; Alexandria — 5%; Chardonnay — 4%; Emerald Riesling — 4%.

Almost all wines produced in Israel are kosher wines, meaning they are made according to specific religious regulations and traditions. These requirements do not affect the quality of the wine.

We organize both group and private wine tours throughout the country. During these excursions, visitors can explore the unique winemaking traditions of Israel’s various wine regions, enjoy tastings directly at the wineries where the wines are produced, and purchase selected wines with the assistance and guidance of experienced wine experts.

Wine tours can easily be combined with sightseeing excursions to Israel’s major landmarks or with leisure stays by the sea.

Wine tourism programs may include visits to vineyards, renowned restaurants, wine festivals, and other special events.

Our tours are designed both for casual wine lovers and for experienced connoisseurs seeking a deeper understanding of Israeli wine culture. We offer both group and tailor-made private programs according to the wishes of our guests.
