We begin our excursion with a visit to one of Christianity’s most sacred sites — the Church of the Nativity, one of the oldest churches in the Holy Land, built in the 4th century CE above the traditional site of the birth of Jesus Christ.
It is the only church in the Holy Land that has remained continuously preserved throughout the centuries without complete destruction.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore:
Pilgrims may also venerate the miraculous icon of the Bethlehem Mother of God. The traditional birthplace of Christ beneath the Orthodox altar is marked by the famous silver “Star of Bethlehem” bearing the inscription: “Here Jesus Christ was born to the Virgin Mary.”
Near the Church of the Nativity stands the Milk Grotto, built above the cave where, according to tradition, the Holy Family hid from the soldiers of King Herod before fleeing to Egypt.
It is believed that while the Virgin Mary was nursing the infant Jesus there, drops of milk fell upon the cave walls and turned them white. This site is traditionally visited by women praying for fertility, motherhood, or successful breastfeeding. According to local tradition, powder from the walls of the Milk Grotto possesses miraculous properties.
East of Bethlehem lies the Shepherds’ Field, traditionally associated with the place where King David was anointed king and where angels announced the birth of Jesus Christ to the shepherds. The Church of the Shepherds’ Field is built above this sacred location.
The next part of our journey takes us to Jericho, considered one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, with a history stretching back more than 10,000 years.
Here we recall the biblical story of the “Trumpets of Jericho” and the conquest of the city by the Israelites.
We then ascend the Mount of Temptation (also known as the Mount Quarantania), where the Monastery of the Temptation stands at the traditional site of Christ’s temptation by the devil during His forty-day fast.
From the mountain, magnificent panoramic views open over the Jordan Valley and the mountains of Jordan.
