Upon arrival to and departure from Israel through international airports, no stamps are placed in passports at border control. Instead, travelers are issued special personalized entry slips with a barcode, which must be kept throughout the entire stay in the country.
Tourists in Israel are exempt from paying VAT on hotel accommodation and car rentals. Therefore, this slip is the only proof confirming their tourist status. If the slip is lost or not presented, a 17% VAT will be charged, except for hotels in Eilat.
Individuals holding dual citizenship, one of which is Israeli, are not exempt from paying VAT.
To receive a TAX FREE refund, you must also present your personal entry slip with a barcode. If it has been lost, you can obtain a copy at the airport from the Ministry of Interior office (located on the second floor).
Individuals holding dual citizenship, one of which is Israeli, are not exempt from paying VAT.
To avoid unpleasant situations involving mandatory VAT payments, we recommend that all tourists make a copy of their entry slip immediately after receiving it—for example, by taking a photo of it on their phone.
There are two international airports in Israel:
Ben Gurion Airport — the main gateway for tourists, located about 60 km from Jerusalem and 20 km from Tel Aviv. Terminal 1 usually serves domestic flights and low-cost airlines, while Terminal 3 handles regular international flights. It is recommended to check your terminal in advance before departure. The terminals are located some distance apart, and a free shuttle bus operates between them, so allow 10–20 minutes for transfer time.
Ramon Airport — located in the south of the country, about 20 km from Eilat.
VIP services at Ben Gurion Airport offer a premium service designed to ensure faster and more comfortable completion of all arrival and departure procedures in Israel.
Ben Gurion Airport is the starting and ending point of most trips to Israel. Therefore, it is important to plan in advance how to reach your destination and ensure timely arrival for your return flight.
Ben Gurion Airport is ranked among the top airports in Europe. It offers a pleasant environment to spend time before departure, with numerous cafés, as well as 24-hour duty-free shops.
There are several ways to get to and from the airport: private transfers, train, bus, and special shared taxis (monit sherut) that connect the airport with various cities.
There are two luggage storage facilities with multi-compartment lockers at Ben Gurion Airport.
These are located in the short-term parking areas Pardes and Kerem, opposite the parking payment machines. The parking lots are situated across from the exit of Terminal 3 on level G.
Each locker is equipped with charging devices for various mobile phone models.
The rental cost depends on the locker size (S, L, XL) and the duration of use. Payment can be made by credit card or in cash (Israeli shekels—banknotes and coins) via a 24/7 payment machine.
Prices start from:
Size S — from 10 shekels
Size L — from 20 shekels
Size XL — from 30 shekels
Lockers are opened using a code set by the user at the time of storage, so it is important to remember your code.
Lockers can be rented for up to 72 hours. If a longer rental period is needed, please contact the service center in advance at +1-700-70-40-64 (Hebrew, English).
